The European Timber Trade Federation (ETTF) has almost completed its harmonized due diligence illegal timber risk assessment system, which will enable all members to comply with the upcoming EU Timber Regulation, according to the organisation’s secretary general André de Boer.

ETTF discusses EU Timber Regulation with Myanmar industry

Andre de Boer, Secretary General of the European Timber Trade Federation (ETTF), has been invited to Myanmar to address the local timber industry on the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR).
Mr de Boer has been asked to explain the challenges and opportunities presented by the new EU anti-illegal timber legislation, which comes into force next March, by the Myanmar Timber Merchant Association.

Certification Update: FSC General Assembly June/July 2011

Every three years FSC holds a General Assembly, over 400 people attended this year’s event hosted in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. The five day programme began with many side meetings, a high profile conference with the objective of setting the future direction of FSC. Motions to alter policies/standards are proposed prior to the Assembly meeting and these are refined and debated by members of the three chambers over the first few days; some are altered, several come together as one and others never make it through the process. Over the final two days about forty finalised motions are officially proposed and voted on by members of the three chambers.

European timber trade bundles forces

The ‘European Timber Trade Federation’ (ETTF) and the ‘Fédération Européenne du Négoce en Bois’ (FEBO) have for the first time ever combined their annual members meeting. “An important step in our ambition to achieve greater cooperation,” said André de Boer, secretary general of the ETTF and since recently also of the FEBO. “Closer collaboration means that the ETTF and the FEBO can bundle their forces. To communicate a clear and powerful message to the timber trade in Europe.”
