World Bank’s Dieterle is new ITTO Executive Director

Co-lead of the World Bank Forest and Landscape Climate Finance team (GCCFL), Gerhard Dieterle has been appointed Executive Director of the International Tropical Timber Council (ITTO).
German citizen, Mr Dieterle is a 35-year veteran of national and international forest, environmental and development policy, sustainable forest management and conservation.  In his current, US-based role he is responsible for World Bank-managed REDD+ activities and programmes.
He is also the Bank’s Program Manager for the Forest Investment Program and Dedicated Grant Mechanism for Indigenous Peoples. He previously worked in Indonesia and Togo.
Dr Dieterle thanked his competitors in the election and also Council members for their ‘willingness to come together to solve the challenges of ITTO’s future’.
“I will invest every effort to nurture this partnership between producers and consumers,” he said. “With this, ITTO can grow and regain financial health.”
In his Council presentation before his appointment, Dr Dieterle said he was committed to act in the best interests of all producer and consumer countries and to promote an atmosphere of trust, collaboration and partnership.
